Chorleywood v Langleybury 04/05/10

Chorleywood 262 for 5 wickets 20 pts
Langleybury 236 for 8 wickets.

The Chorleywood U9 campaign for 2010 began on a cool summer's evening at Langleybury.

The boys fielded first and Oliver opened by bowling an excellent first over. Toby's bowling resulted in two further outs and Tom shook up their batsmen taking three wickets in one over.

Fielding overall was excellent with well held catches and intelligent and accurate throwing. Adam was a very safe pair of hands as wicket keeper and had to be on his game with a few wayward balls from his bowlers.

Langleybury scored 236 and lost eight wickets.

Harry and Toby opened the batting for Chorleywood and faced some particularly fast balls from their star bowler. They both weathered the storm well and got the team off to a good start.

James then stepped up to the crease and put in a true captain's performance, punishing their bowling with three fours in one over. He batted with Adam who played some excellent strokes and was the first batsman not to be out.

Oliver and Alex continued in the same vein and both struck powerful fours while protecting their wickets well. With the match now looking like a Chorleywood victory, Cormack and Tom formed the final partnership.

Both batted sensibly, protecting their wicket and putting on a further sixteen runs to see their side to a score of 262 for only five wickets lost.

It was an excellent victory and a great way to start the season. The key to the game was only losing five wickets, but our bowling accuracy and technique needs a little work on Sunday.

Overall, batting was strong, running between the wickets very impressive and fielding excellent. Well done to all the boys.
