Langleybury v Chorleywood 15/05/09

Chorleywood 128 for 3 wickets 20pts
Langleybury 64 all out

On a cold, damp and windy Tuesday the U14s campaign got back on track with a resounding victory over Langleybury CC.

For this match the U14s with several players unavailable drafted in U13s Alex Petrie, Raghev Kotecha and U12 Frazer Pegler.

Electing to bat Chorleywood openers Alex Keating and Anish Khiroya started well against brisk bowling from Quint and Shah and put 40 on the board by the 8th over. Having survived three close run outs first change Welsh bowled Keating for 19.

Matt Rose joined his skipper and immediately took Harry Sansom to task with a swept six and a couple of fours, their partnership registered 50 runs in 6 overs and could of been more if the lofted shots had not stuck in the soft turf.

When Welsh got retribution by bowling Rose for 26 the score was 95 and 6 overs left, Tom Wilson coming in at four was bowled by the very next ball from Welsh and Wood were three down. Number 5 Chris Naisby, 16, pushed the score along with Khiroya and helped the team to a good total score of 128 for 3 wickets.

Anish Khiroya fell three short of a 50 in a fine knock. It has to be said that had it not been for the athletic boundary fielding of Ollie Quint the team would of posted 140+. Welsh bowled 4 overs for 18 and took all three wickets.

In reply Langleybury found the Wood bowling of Raghev Kotecha and Frazer Pegler a difficult prospect, the figures of Kotecha 4-1-6-2 and Pegler 3-0-14-1 kept Langleybury pinned back and facing an ever increasing run rate. Callum Till and Matthew Stoughton-Harris both took wickets including Qunit's who finished on 16, at at the 11th over Langleybury were rocked on 36 for 5.

Callum Farnsworth and Alex Petrie were brought on for a while then Khiroya brought himslef on and deceived the dangerous Hines with his quicker ball, 58 for 6 in the 18th.

Khiroya then unleashed the two remaining unused bowlers to see out the match, Rose and Naisby closed the match and enabled wood to take all 10 wickets by each taking a double wicket over. Langleybury 64 all out.

A good performance from the team and well done to the skipper for making sure all ten players bowled.

Special note: 8 of the 10 wickets were all bowled.

Chorleywood v West Herts 15/05/09

Match abandoned after 15 overs due to rain.

Chorleywood v Abbots Langley 08/05/09

Chorleywood 89 for 9 wickets 6pts
Abbots Langley 132 for 4 wickets 20pts

Electing to field Chorleywood found Abbots openers Burgess and Henderson in prime form, they reached 50 by the 7th over and eventually making a partnership of 57 until Burgess was bowled by Josh Ryan for 28.

George Agius continued the good work for Abbots and put on another 48 runs with Henderson who fell two runs short of a very fine 50 when he was caught by Rose off Chris Naisby. Agius was to fall soon after for 17 when bowled by Dom Rice.

Chorleywood restricted the flow of runs for the next five overs but Dom Smith pushed the Abbots final score to a very respectable 132 with a quick fire 20 not out. 132 for 4.

In reply Chorleywood's response was careful but they soon crept behind the required run rate. With one wicket down Anish Khiroya and Matt Rose made a partnership of 29 but 8 overs had passed.

In pursuit of the mounting run rate a little caution was cast aside and the Wood batsmen opened up, Rose went for 12 but Khiroya stayed and began to find the boundary he started to run out of partners as the wickets tumbled.

Jack Tame put on 37 with his skipper but the ever increasing run rate took its toll. Khiroya also fell 2 short of a fine 50. Chorleywood finished on 89 for 9. Pick of the Abbots bowlers were Dom Smith 2 wickets for 7 runs off 4 overs and Will Stow 2 for 4.

Always a pleasure to play our local rivals but we were all very cold !

St Albans v Chorleywood 26/04/09

St Albans 116 for 6 wickets 20pts
Chorleywood 92 for 5 wickets 7pts

St Albans win.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon at Clarence Park, St Albans won the toss and chose to bat.

Opening the batting, Springall and T.Bowskill got off to a steady start, with Popat and Rose bowling tightly. Goddard coming in at 3, scored rapidly to reach 51 retired, whilst wickets fell around him.

He was well supported by No. 6 Steward, scoring a creditable 19 with some fine running between the wickets. A quick-fire 12 at the end from Hall took the total to 116-6. Not a bad total for the boys' first game on an early season wicket.

Pick of the Chorleywood bowlers was off-spinner Khiroya with 3-15 off his four overs.

Opening the bowling, C. Bowskill and Rosson got St Albans off to an excellent start. Rosson with a maiden for his first over and C Bowskill with a wicket maiden for his second over.

Rose held up the innings well, scoring 28 with a couple of lovely shots. He was dismissed by a good catch from Goddard at cover, off the bowling of Hall. Khiroya, coming in at 5, tried to push Chorleywood to victory; however they fell short of the target finishing on 92-5. Wickets were shared between four bowlers.

A match played in good spirit in the spring sunshine, and a benchmark for all the boys for this season.
