Chorleywood 87 for 4 wickets
5pts The BBC weather forecast got it right - we had rain early afternoon on the Thursday, but for once it stopped after an hour and the game could go ahead... On a cloudy evening, Berkhamsted owon the toss and put Chorleywood in with the opening pair of West and Bryant leading the charge and it wasn't until the 8th over until Berkhamsted bowlers manged to take a wicket with the score on 37. Stanford after earlier scaring West with a ball at his head, bowled a quick full toss which beat West and bowled him.. This brought in Hodson, who lasted a couple of overs, scored 3 runs and was well caught by Holdroyd, bowled by Lewarne. No. 4 batsman came in and supported Bryant who made 33 and retired. The next two batsmen in Bendall and Waller didn't trouble the scorers too much, scoring 1 and 0, but at the other end Clement was happily scoring 4s. However tight bowling by Berkhamsted through Lewis, Mackey and Nicholls limted Chorleywood to 87. The light was fading fast and there were calls to find some flood lights as Berkhamsted came into bat. Three overs hadn't passed by the time Berkhamsted had lost both their two opening batsmen of Nicholls and Filer for 2 and 4 apiece, both out to Clement, once fantastic catch high up in the air from Rogers and once by Clement off his own bowling. Was this to be Chorleywood's day? The next two batsmen Stanford and Holdroyd had different ideas, and 4s were hit to all parts of the ground. Then in the 10th over Stanford (12) gave an easy catch to Hodson, off the bowling of Rogers with the score on 54... Lewarne came in and the pace of the scoring increased (if it was possible) with more 4s.. The scorers by this time could hardly see the ball, so what the batsmen could see.... The two batsmen, Holdroyd and Lewarne saw Berkhamsted home without trouble for a superb 21 & 28 respectively - in the 15th over.. Great spirit showed by all the boys, umpires, scorers and crowd... |
